Recently, we’ve been thinking a lot about the future of Windows Phone and Microsoft’s OEM partners, now that the company is swallowing up Nokia and the Lumia brand. We know that Huawei is along for the ride, but haven’t heard much about what’s next for companies like HTC or Samsung. Well, this almost certainly predates the Nokia announcement by a good chunk of time, but it looks like Samsung may have been working on a new WP8 model, showing up today in FCC paperwork.
The phone is Samsung model SGH-i187. That number first appeared a little earlier this summer in benchmark results, but FCC paperwork sure is a lot more convincing than anything of that nature. The FCC docs reveal the sort of 3G bands we’d expect for a phone on AT&T’s network, and the phone’s LTE coverage, reaching bands 2, 4, 5, and 17, also hits what it needs for operation on AT&T.
Armed with that model number, we pulled down a UAProf file from Samsung’s servers which confirms the presence of Windows Phone, as well as a 720p resolution display. And based on those benchmarks from earlier, a Snapdragon 400 SoC looks likely. The FCC docs also give us a few dimensions, and while they’re not a precise match, they’re close enough to the size of the ATIV S that we’re almost certainly looking at another screen in the 4.8-inch range.
